FACT SHEET:The “Migrant Protection Protocols”

In December 2018, the Trump administration announced the creation of a new program called the “Migrant Protection Protocols” (MPP 1.0)—often referred to as the “Remain in Mexico” program. The program went into effect in January 2019 and was used to send nearly 70,000 migrants back to Mexico before it was suspended, and then terminated, after President Biden took office. In August 2021, a federal court in Texas ordered the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to reinstate MPP. Read fuull article
